Both Lorne and Marion Bay are perfect summer playgrounds or relaxing escapes, complete with beautiful landscapes, stunning beaches, pristine environments and plenty to do and see. The Falls Festival is the perfect excuse to visit these areas. It is well worth adding a few days on the beginning or end of your festival expedition to spoil yourself with a little holiday and soak up what the local areas have to offer...

Lorne: Situated on the famous Great Ocean Road, between the beautiful Loutit Bay and forests of the Otway Ranges, Lorne is one of Victoria's 'it' summer destinations. Touted by some as the south's Byron Bay, with its mild weather, cafe culture, beautiful scenery and fascinating shops, its no wonder Lorne is one of the region's most popular holiday destinations. You could easily spend a couple of days, a week or longer exploring the area around this funky beachside town.

What to see and do: The Great Ocean RoadIs one of the world's most breathtaking coastal drives and with its huge cliffs, raging surf, tranquil bays, lush rainforests and towering rock stacks we can't think of a better way to get to your destination. If you've got some time on your hands, head down the coast further towards Port Campbell and the Twelve Apostles, or stop in at any of the number of beautiful waterfalls or check out the spectacular Otway Fly Tree Top walk through the canopy of the Otways old growth rainforests.

Beaches The Great Ocean Road and Lorne have some of the state's most spectacular beaches and summer time when the festival is held is the perfect time to visit them. Stop in at the famous Bells Beach on your way down or pick up a bargain at all the big name surf stores in Torquay. The Pier to Pub Swim held in early January, the Pier to Pub is one of the area's largest events. Swimmers starting at the scenic Lorne pier and end, you guessed it!

At the pub. Get involved or just join in on the party at the end!

Get a little Arty Get in touch with the arts at the galleries and shops in Lorne's main street and side streets. Or venture just a little out of town to the amazing Q dos gallery which is located in a beautiful bush setting. WalksThere's over 100 kilometres of well-marked walking tracks in the national park which surrounds Lorne. The park protects around 22,000 hectares of forest, fern gullies, waterfalls, tall cliffs and sandy beaches in a coastal stretch from Aireys Inlet to Kennett River.

Try the Surf Coast Walk. While the total distance is around 30km, the walk consists of several shorter, easily accessed sections, meaning you can make the walk as long or short as you want. Tracks can take you from Jan Juc, through Anglesea and Aireys Inlet to Moggs Creek and Angahook-Lorne State Park. Toilets, drinking water, camping facilities and information boards are located at various intervals along the way.
