Everything tastes so much better when you are in the fresh air. There is such a sense of achievement when you serve up a meal cooked on a campfire or on a camping stove. Battling the wind, rain and grumbling stomachs to create something edible with the supplies you’ve packed or purchased on your trip. Its magical cooking bacon on a stove in the morning, the sound of sizzling and the smell wafting round your camp site, and the percolator bubbling with freshly brewed coffee. Like many people I started off with a camp stove my parents gave me and a tin of hot dog sausages as I sat cramped in my two man army surplus tent hiding from the rain at Reading music festival. Nowadays I love to create new and exciting recipes that can be cooked on a variety of stoves or on the campfire and especially love seeing my friends faces as they bite in to a perfectly cooked steak or dig in to a piping hot chilli with crusty French bread. This page is a way of sharing recipes, learning new ways of cooking, from basic festival essential cookery, to a more involved approach of feeding the starving mouths on your camping trip. We will look at local food markets, farm shops, eco friendly recipes, foraging for ingredients, reviewing cookery equipment and giving you useful links to expert sites. |
