Get Back to Basics
So what is back to basics camping? Is it real camping? Or is it a style that some people are making fashionable again, a kind of vintage camping? Or as some may say Glamping? And how can we help you create that style and get back to basics….
Many people that have been camping in caravans or in massive touring tents with all of the latest professional camping equipment are now considering getting ‘back to basics’ and as the UK’s financial crisis deepens many people who have traditionally holidayed abroad are now looking at camping as a cheaper option for a holiday in the UK. This raised the question in my mind why people are wanting to get back to basics and what does this entail.
Real camping is often referred to as camping under canvas in a secluded and peaceful site, with no club house, no pool, no amusements, and the most basic facilities.
Wild Camping is taking this one step further, and finding somewhere to pitch your tent in the countryside with the landowners permission, and no facilities at all. Whether backpacking or not this is the pure hardened camper option.
Where as Glamping is seen to be as a new term for glamorous camping, and seems to be the current trend for someone else to have already sent up the tent, sleeping in cotton or linen sheets and duvets, and having a campfire to relax around – glamping get’s you outdoors without the unpleasantries.
So ‘Back to Basics’ means: stressing simplicity and adherence to fundamental principles: The movement suggests a back-to-basics approach to living for those whose lives have become complicated.
This is where it brings me back to the history of camping and the current fashionable trend for people in the UK taking an interest in camping. The current financial climate has led many people to loose their jobs and their lifestyles have dramatically changed. In light of tighter purse strings and high levels of stress many people are opting to get back to nature, make their life’s more simple and give camping a go in its most basic form. Wanting to escape the hordes at major camping and caravan parks people are seeking something simpler and reminiscent to that of which they may have experienced as a child. Trends always come full circle, take for example eighties fashion, unfortunately we have recently seen a resurgence of eighties fashion on the catwalks and in the highstreet stores, and history seems to be repeating itself with a Uk financial depression and a surge towards camping. I think this is not only because it is cheaper but that people at these times of stress look at their vales again and want to escape to an easier time, and ‘back to basics’ camping certainly gives the mind time to wander and space to breathe.
